Learning from Warhol, 8 more ways to celebrate
July 24, 2008 § 1 Comment
Here at Andy Warhol’s Silver Factory Birthday Party Headquarters at Playthink Learning Studio, we’re busy working up 80 ways for you to celebrate Andy Warhol on 8.8.08 at 8. We’re over halfway there…
#49 Wanna Celebrate Andy? Celebrate yourself–Warhol style–by celebrating others. Andy’s life shows us that personal self expression is nothing without community. Especially when that community is as hip as Andy’s.
#50 Shamelessly wallow in local gossip. Andy loved the New York Post, published his own gossip magazine, and seemed to enjoy being the subject of sensationalist tittle tattle. (And if you’re interesting enough, we might even gossip about you!)
#51 Play hard, but work hard, too. Warhol’s party headquarters wasn’t called The Factory by accident. At Warhol’s birthday party at Playthink Learning Studio, we’ll play hard, and we may even put you to work. Youl’ll get the chance to create lovely works of art while rubbing elbows with Dayton’s most glamorous hipsters.
#52 Look, but please don’t touch. For all the sexy parties and walks on the wild side, Andy was reportedly (and notoriously) celibate. Andy said, “Sex is more exciting on the screen and between the pages than between the sheets.”
“#53 Live your life as a work of art. They’re going to talk about you anyway, so you might as well give them something to talk–and to write–about. On your way to the party, check out these books and films about Andy at the library.
#54 Live your life as a fabrication of the media.
Warhol said, “Before I was shot, I always thought that I was more half-there than all-there – I always suspected that I was watching TV instead of living life. Right when I was being shot and ever since, I knew that I was watching television.”
#55 While you’re busy living your life, take time out to make plans to visit the Wexner.
Exclusive U.S. Presentation of Andy Warhol,Other Voices, Other Rooms, Sat, Sep 13, 2008 – Sun, Feb 15, 2009, Wexner Center Galleries.
#56 Make your own “15 seconds of fame” commercial. Make an add, preview it at the party, and then enter it in the Wexner’s 15 seconds of fame contest.
